It is that time of year again…tax preparation season. This year’s deadline is Wednesday, April 15th, 2020. Below are ways seniors can receive assistance with tax preparation:
Seniors can set up an appointment at a local Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC). There are 14 locations in Illinois this year and they are listed at http://www.irs.gov. To make an appointment, call 844-545-5640.
Ladder Up enlists the help of trained volunteers to offer free, confidential tax preparation and e-filing of both federal and Illinois tax returns, including prior year returns, through its Tax Assistance Program (TAP). To qualify for this free service, families must have an annual income of$56,000 or less and individuals need to have an annual income of $30,000 or less. This year, Ladder Up is operating 24 sites. Most sites are housed in schools, WIC Food Centers, and other community institutions. Sites will remain open until April 15th, 2020 as well as May through September. All sites hours vary.
